The Multi collection features three timepieces that use contrasting colours to evoke different times of the day.
Multi Morning places camel and pastel tones against a forest-green hour hand. Multi Noon pairs a grey strap and face with vibrant hands, and Multi Midnight features a matt black dial and denim-blue strap.
“Morning, noon and midnight make up significant moments of our day, with each name conjuring different connotations and associations,” AÃRK co-founder Celica Austria told Dezeen Watch Store in an interview.
“The palettes used are a visual representation of each word; the softness of morning, the energy of noon and the mystery of midnight are conveyed through selected hues and considered colour-blocking.”
The pared-back Multi watch has no indices, numerals or date window, to keep the focus on the colour contrast between the hands and dial. It features a dual-tone leather strap made from Italian calf leather. Shop Multi at Dezeen Watch Store now ›
Melbourne creatives AÃRK typically experiment with colour and form to bring a playful element to their timepieces.
“There has certainly been a wave of tonal and minimalist style watches of late, and this kind of timepiece will always have its place. However, we wanted to create something that was refreshing and fun,” continued Austria.
“There’s a playful nature to both AÃRK and Daniel Emma which is what has brought us together and what we wanted to draw on for the development of this watch,” she added.
Industrial designers Daniel To and Emma Aiston have previously designed a watch for AÃRK featuring a marble dial, which is also available from Dezeen Watch Store.
“For the first watch, we used the materiality of marble in a different context,” the duo told Dezeen.”The new Multi range uses colour as the focus. We have always been fascinated by colours that match but aren’t supposed to match.”
